Good mount but not heat resistant

This is an excellent window mount and works well for my Escort 9500ix.
Unfortunately it does not withstand the extreme heat which can occur (especially in summer months)in the front windshield area of your car.
Mine worked great for almost one year and then the suction cup separated from the plastic mounting bracket due to the heat.
I'm replacing it with the beanbag type mount.

Ordered two, now both have failed

I ordered two of these mounts, one for a backup because it seemed like a good way to mount the detector. This summer, after only a few months of using it, the suction cup separated from the unit. It looked like it just tore away from the mount. Others claim it is heat or cold. I'm not so sure it isn't just a poor design. I installed the second mount yesterday. I'll see how long it lasts. Two stars are given instead of one because I'm an optimist and hopeful the second mount holds up.
*** UPDATE ***
Okay, the second one failed July 23rd just as the first one did. It seemed to fail slowly over time. At first it fit snug against the windshield. It slowly developed a gap that required me to adjust the detector back to level again. Yesterday it almost completely separated from the suction cup and became unusable. It appears the weight of the detector pulls the center out of the suction cup over time. This mount is exactly what I wanted but I wouldn't recommend it because of it's short life span.

Changed My Review- Suction Latch Mechanism Broke Internally

Unfortunately, I had to change my review because of poor reliability. The inside latch cam mechanism broke into many pieces after only a few short uses. Due to faulty plastic molded parts.
Update Dec. 30, 2012- Good concept but unfortunately, the latest replacement also failed (third one.)

For several years I have had problems with my 8500 Escort 2 suction cup mount not holding. The cups were always a pain to use. They would not hold when trying to mount the unit, would release as the temperature would change during the night, and would release when I hit a bump on the road. I periodically washed and replaced the cups without any increase in satisfaction of performance.
I was about to make my own mount when I saw Escort's new suction cup mount. I immediately ordered it and when it arrived, I mounted it on my windshield and put it to the test. Being skeptical of my past experience with the 2 suction cup mount, I did a few pull ups and found it really sucks!
I am quite pleased to comment that it is a fine unit. The cup works great and the tang that slides into the Escort is powder coated metal rather than flimsy plastic (Kudos to the design engineer.)
I am joking about the pull ups but am quite serious about this being an excellent product that entirely cures my past annoyances with the old mount system.
I recommend purchasing it as a replacement for the old cup system and, if you are buying a new Escort, include the new cup with your order. I feel you will also be quite pleased.
