Finally! A Good and not Rip-Off Way to Charge your iPhone 5 on the Road
By Charlie Brown
After so many months and trying the common web-popular solution of using an iPhone 4 approved charger with a USB port and a lightning to USB cable -which only worked when the iPhone 5 was close to fully charged- I can finally enjoy a car charger truly designed for the iPhone 5. Boy I'm happy!
This is in essence the same Griffin model made for the 30 pin connector but with a lightning end and more amps to better fit the iPhone 5 charging needs, same coiled cable, same plug. I had one of those to charge my iPhone 4 and loved it, gave me many years of service, so for me this was a natural upgrade. I particularly like coiled cables, it avoids having a very long cable wrapping around anything on the front of the car, while giving you the flexibility to move far from the plug. I tried it and I got to the back seats of the car with the connector still holding on the iPhone. The coil is still a bit strong but it's new, with time it will get easier I'm sure, as it did with the previous one
Built quality is good, cable is strong and the connector fits the iPhone as if it were Apple's original. The bulb is made of hard plastic -as expected and as almost all car chargers around- and it fits very nice and tight on my Prius aux plug. The cable is part of the unit, meaning there is no USB connector to separate the cable from the bulb. This is good for me as I don't have to deal with misplaced cables or disconnections while the coil is stretched, but for some people it might be an issue. It also helps to keep the bulb very small and with a very low profile when plugged into the car
Haven't measured charging time or compared them with the specs, but it fully charged a 25% charged iPhone 5 in a less than an hour, which in my opinion it's very good for a car charger.

Charger works, but plug *way* too big
By JB
The Griffin PowerJolt SE Coiled Lightning Car Charger for iPhone 5 seems to work OK charging an iPhone 5 - but the Lightning plug end is *much* larger than on the standard Apple Lightning cable or on several Belkin Lightning cables that I bought recently.
It will not fit through the port hole on either of my iPhone 5 cases (Belkin Grip Candy Sheer Case/Cover For New Apple iPhone 5 and Speck Products CandyShell Glossy Case for iPhone 5); it does work on my wife's OtterBox Defender Series Case for iPhone 5.
Griffin Tech, please go back to the drawing board and come back with a Lightning plug that fits the majority of cases out there. This one does not.

Just what I needed
By BigHemi
Just what I needed to charge my new iPhone 5 in my older Jeep. Works perfectly, and coiled cord is extra long
