Great replacement just take your time
By Michael Porter
The key ring attachment on my old fob finally broke after several repair attempts. The fob was also very worn and the cover for the panic button was missing. I ordered this fob after reading the reviews. I got it in a couple of days and went to work. I watched a couple of different videos on youtube. It was simple and easy. I even moved my old key to the new fob rather than get the key blank cut. Had to work on getting the spring in correctly and tighten it to get that nice click when releasing the key.
If you move your key to the new fob, don't forget the RFID chip as well. It is in the bottom part of the fob where the key is attached. It is about the size of a long grain of rice. Mine wasn't glued in and easily came out. It helps to do your work in a well lit area.
Now I've got a brand new key for my 2003 Jetta. I'm going to order another fob for my other key then it's new headlights!

Great BUT remember to remove the RFID Chip from your old key
By Evangelos Kaparis
Overall excellent and cheap way to 'overhaul' my beloved VW GTI's battle worn key fob. Loved the fact that the package included a new VW sticker. Class act!
Two very important things to remember. First you MUST remember to remove the tiny RFID chip from the plastic case from the OLD key. You forget this step and your car's Imobilizer will not let you crank the engine. Google and you will see what I am talking about, where the chip is located and what it looks like. I learned the hard way. It's the size of a large rice grain. Second, the new keyfob plastics do not have a tiny gasket to seal prevent moisture entering the tiny motherboard of the remote unlock feature. So careful of the water, or if you're crafty, remove the gasket from the old key and (try) to transpose it to the new one. easier said than done. i failed on that front. Oh last but not least, assuming you want to re-use the cut key from your old key fob you need to pre-twist/torque the spring prior to closing the plastic caps. Fiddle with it, you'll see what i am talking about.
have fun folks.

Works great!
By Bud
This product makes my old key look just like new. I moved the circuit board and rfid chip over without a problem. My old key wouldn't quite slide in far enough into the cam to allow the locking pin to go in. When I compared the key blank that came with this shell, I noticed that it was just a tiny bit thinner where it slides into the rotating cam. I used a piece of sandpaper on the end of my old key to thin it down just a bit. The old key fit perfectly after that. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a key FOB that is failing mechanically and the electronics are still working.
