You get what you pay for

Initially I bought a cheaper vent mount. It broke and was sent back. Then I bought this Garmin vent mount. It's like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. This is by far better than the cheaper alternatives. If you've had overheating, charging issues, and or your touch screen becomes inop; this air vent mount might solve any or all those issues. Placing a GPS on a the windshield in direct sun is as hot a location as one could find in a vehicle. Moving it lower to an air vent gets it out of the hot zone and cools at the same time. An extra benefit for folks wearing bifocal glasses is the lower position makes it easier to view thru your lower lens.

This worked well on my car's vent..but you'll want to be gentle. When you pivot the GPS display you can feel the vanes of the vent flexing. Don't let little kids sit up front where they could bang on it or you could imagine breaking the vent fins.

We used this on a two day road trip and it worked great. This is a great solution in a car with a long sloping windshield where the suction cup mount would have the GPS out of the driver's reach.

Note you'll need the bracket from your existing suction cup mount...just gently separate the ball joint. Yes I'm sure that's a cost cutting measure but otherwise they would have to offer many versions to hold different models.

And no more suction cup smudges on the windshield!

Love this vent mount!

This is the 3rd different vent mount that I've tried over the years and this is by far the best one. I don't really like window or dash mounts for a number of reasons least of which is that they are too far out of reach and too visible to prying eyes. Anyway this is the only one that actually tightens down on the vanes of the vent and keeps the GPS steady and secure as well as tight against the vent. This is especially important with my Nuvi 3590 as it's quite large and heavy for a GPS. Only downside is that it's not really one size fits all but that is the sacrifice for having it fit so nice and snug. If I had to guess this will fit 85%+ of all horizontal vents. I don't have vertical vents on any of my cars so can't comment on that. Fits my 06 Charger and my wife's 05 Cobalt perfectly.

UPDATE - I have measured the device and the approximate max vent depth is 11/16" (0.69inch)or 17.7mm give or take. Anything bigger than that and the little lip won't grab on to the back of the vent. Vents smaller than that should be ok but there may be a little play in it but if you tighten it well enough it should be fine. Again I would only recommend this for Horizontal Vents though. Vertical or angled vents would be a bit iffy but would not be impossible especially if you are handy at modding things.
