Solid product, finish could be better

Solid quality RAM product. The base is cast aluminum and the ball is made of either solid rubber or the ball is some other material and coated in a hard rubber. The point of the ball being rubber or rubber coated is that it'll keep the mount extenstion that is attached to it from moving around. Very well made.

My particular item was not finished nearly as nicely as pictured in that the base is more of a matte black, the metal shaft is partially painted black and partially exposed aluminum, and the rubber of the ball is not consistently shiny or matte in finish. This of course will have zero impact on its function, just pointing out that I expect exceptional finish from RAM products and did not get it on this one. Call me picky.

Where is the hardware?

No hardware? No bolts, spacers, nuts, nothing!? No option to add them into the purchase either? That is ridiculous. I just bought a three piece set with the Ram a Can II, Diamond base, and Tab-tite IPad holder and I can't use it because the hardware to put it all together is not included. There should be disclosure for these types of products. I can't ven find the hardware needed to complete the setup on Amazon.

More Compact Than The Composite Version

I own several of these (along with one RAM Mount Composite Diamond Base w/1" Ball) for my mounting hardware.

I prefer these over the composite version for a couple reasons:
1. They are metal. While slightly heavier than the composite version, they strike me as being sturdier.
2. They are more compact. The top of the diamond base on this is flat, not curved like the composite version. It mounts more closely to other RAM equipment.
