The best suction cup mount for your smartphone

Ever since California passed a law outlawing holding your cellular phone while driving, I've been searching for a flexible mounting solution that will allow me to dial and talk without holding my phone. I've tried all manner of mounts and found this one to be the best.
This product consists of four components made by Ram Mounts. Ram Mounts is well-known in the motorcycle and off-road universe for making a wide variety of very high quality mounting solutions for phones and GPS units. The components in this kit are: (1) the X-Grip, which actually holds your phone, (2) a 4-inch long metal arm, (3) a suction cup mount, and (4) a ball joint that connects #2 and #3 together.
The X-Grip is a spring loaded mechanism. You just spread the arms apart and insert your phone. When you release the arms, the arms come together and the four rubber points (they look like circles in the picture) hold your phone in place. The grip is firm, but not so firm that it would damage the phone. It easily holds all manner of smartphones, even if you have a case installed on the phone. It takes less than a second to mount or unmount your phone.
If one of the mounting points interferes with the phone's buttons, you just move the phone up or down slightly so that the mount point doesn't interfere with the button any longer. It's really a non-issue, and so I was surprised to find that the only other review of this product took issue on this point. Just about any universal mount has the potential to block operation, but I've always been able to find a way to install my phone so that it doesn't.
Even better, the suction cup works on any smooth surface. I've mounted this to my windshield and to the bottom of the cup holders. GPS City (the seller) actually makes a great friction mount that you can simply place on your dashboard.
The mount holds my phone stable and without any significant vibration.
Because the back of the X-Grip is mostly open, it does not block the speaker used on the back of my phone for speakerphone operation. Instead, the sound leaves the phone unimpeded, bounces off the windshield, and comes back at me loud and clear.
If you read my other reviews, you'll find that I'm not easily impressed. Despite that, I really, really like this mounting solution.

Stays On!!

I've tried many different brands and types of mounts. They all failed to stay put and some had cradles that were cumbersome and/or weren't flexible enough to adjust to your car. In fact I gave up for a while, and simply put my phone in the cup holder (those mount types also didnt work well for me). But then I saw the RAM mounts on-line and was impressed with their product line, so I gave it a shot. What a difference! As soon as you unpack it you can feel its weight and see how well made the movable parts are. None of the other mounts I purchased compare in quality. The suction cup is amazingly strong and doesn't fall off. The overall adjustability is great and the phone cradle is easy to work with. I have it mounted just below my rear view mirror in landscape mode and it's been just perfect. If you're looking for a secure, fully adjustable window mount don't waste your money - pony up the extra bucks for this mount. You'll be very glad and in the long run possibly save money by not trying cheaper products that don't stay put or have cheap plastic parts that break. You get what you pay for. After the holidays I will buy another for my second car.

Holds the phone very srong

I purchased this mount to hold the phone in my racecar while I use Harry's GPS Lap timer to get lap times and other info. I crashed into the wall at a rather high speed and it held the phone well. Honestly I had doubts regarding the design but it proved that it can hold the phone very strong. I recommend it.
